The Estuary: painting

The Thames Estuary is tidal and widens, with mud flats and marshes as you approach the sea, and here it’s a haven for birds and wildlife.

Towards the mainland II: painting

‘Towards the mainland II’ evolved after a day in the studio working on a painting inspired by a visit  to Korcula in Croatia last summer.  I’ve applied glazes, translucent paint layers created by mixing small amounts of oil paint with artists painting medium and linseed oil.  Your feedback is welcome.

Shells + tree: painting

A charcoal drawing, made through the observation of a sea shell and a photograph of a rural landscape, inspired this abstract oil painting.

Reedbeds at sunset: painting

The sunset that I saw last month at the RSPB nature reserve, Minsmere in Suffolk, was incredible and the view of it over the reedbeds  inspired this oil painting.

Colourfield: painting scrabble

Firstly, organic shapes to form five distinct areas were drawn, secondly, random colours were chosen, one colour at time, to mix and apply (with some final adjustments). By playing the class exercise, painting scrabble, this painting, “Colourfield” was made.

Reedbeds: oil painting

This painting was inspired by a visit to the beautiful RSPB nature reserve, Minsmere in Suffolk, when an avocet, little egrets, snipes, lapwings, marsh harriers and many ducks, swans and geese were seen.  The work was made during one studio session of the Advanced painting practice course.

Towards the mainland: oil painting

I’m now a student at Morley College taking the Advanced Painting Practice course in 2015-16.  “Towards the mainland” is one of my first paintings on the course and is inspired by the view from medieval Korcula Town across the Mediterranean Sea towards Croatia.
